An Ode to Gunnlod written by Michael A. Gomez Nov-Dec 2, 2025

ree

Miles from the mountains cave my verse reached her ears that quivered.

there candles emit the scent of lost love.

The silence of her song was piercing.

My words filled the air that was moist and thick like a haze of divine obscurity.

The siren in male persona moving in grace. beckoning gunnlod and rousing her into the sacred mist.

The airborne words stirred and lured her. as she moves closer to the voice that draws her. Thinking “is this Odin? Has he returned?”

“Father, your spirit keeps my presence here bound to this place.”

Yet a mysterious voice beckons her through enchantment.

as her eyes are transfixed on something she can not see.

Moving through the mist to the bearer of the voice poised in verse.

Reaching the mountains peak as though lifted by helping hands.

The mellifluous voice spoke and warmed her soul to divine delight.

And her conscious thought was overwhelmed, believing it was Odin.

Calling out his name only to meet

one of a different appearance.

Natures wonder enveloped him, while he seemed other worldly beyond Asgard.

“Where did his power come from? Did this wizard of words attain the sacred mead?

“Is this Odin in disguise?” Gunnlod is abducted by the poet's wisdom.

“Is there one wiser than Kvasir?”

Gunnlod Surrenders In freedom, taken by the verse revealing the depth of her poverty.

Finding the verse was coming from within, exposing the shadow of herself.

As she embraced the poet, peace penetrated as the first ray of light brought about the dawn.

The stream of life flowed smoothly where past and present

merged into a sacred duality of harmony.

as she finished the ode to herself, she dozed into a dream.

There was her father as she ran towards him.

As Odin watched from Hlidskjalf.
