The Blinds are closed,
while the faint light of freedom beckons us.
As the hummingbird sings outside,
But the hum of the air conditioner drowns him out,
Keeping the prisoner from hearing emancipation's sweet melody.
as Sweltering heat cages us in like death Row convicts about to be fried.
But unlike them for us,
prison is a lifelong sentence,
which is to exist like freemen,
but to be enslaved in the mind.
