an excerpt from:

"Marcus: The Crown & The Servants Heart" 2020-2021

which is a 3-part series of short stories written by Michael A. Gomez

Needless to say, Marcus felt powerless, but it was in his own weakness where he found comfort and solace in the presence of God and that he had learned in life God is always with him and it was just as important to conscientiously take each step with God every day. Marcus had a closeness with God. And this relationship gave him Peace within and strength, an inner strength, spiritual strength that he could not attain on his own. Marcus understood peace and strength came from a relationship with God, as well as wisdom and abilities. it was up to us to use these gifts, either, for the glory of God or for ourselves. to be at the service of God and others for God’s will or to serve ourselves. He believes, a King, who does not serve mankind for the glory of God is not a king and Marcus would rather not be called King. As he said in a recent speech, "I am not a king. I am a servant of our eternal God and King. if I do not serve the people with honesty, integrity, compassion and the love of our great God, then I have failed and this crown should grace the head of another, who is called. A king is called to lay down his life for his people, in service to God and the people he serves, but in truth, I would rather not be called a King, I would rather be remembered, if by anything at all, and that is to have the heart of a servant for God, to have the heart of a servant for his people and to have the heart of a servant for His kingdom." Marcus knew the power of the throne could be a great Temptation for anyone, who sits upon it. As lowly as man can be, he comes to a throne that he is never fit to sit upon, but he realizes the one who entrusted that seat to him and his life’s response to such a calling should be to live in humility, as a servant with a humble heart that continually walks in obedience to that calling. living a life of devotion, commitment and obedience. Yes, love is a big part of this calling. without God’s expression of Love towards us would we know how to love in his ways, would we be able to love in his ways? What Marcus discovered when he was in the pit was that God was with him and that God loves him. Just as he is with him and loves him, as he lays on his sickbed. Marcus grew very tired during his long prayers and his prayers carried over into his dreams as he fell asleep, and God was with him.
